Day 10 | 09.05.2016: Off-Road and Lights Reinstalled on the Vroni

Starting point: Ahmedyie Köyü Cami (4’077 km) Destination: Giresun (4’427 km) Day’s distance: 350 km

Right on cue with the rooster, we got up at 05:00 in the Turkish back of beyond at Ahmedyie Köyü Cami. After coffee we launched the drone for some aerial photos, then loaded everything onto our rally cars and set off for four hours of off-road driving over hill and dale towards Merzifon.

From Merzifon we drove via Samsun and Ordu to Giresun, where we set up yet another rally camp right on the Black Sea. All 111 rally teams have arrived at the camp and we’re only about 50 metres from the sea.

Making good use of the time, we decided to take our Vroni to an Oto Savesi (a cheap garage — absolute world champions at fixing anything) and get the Vroni back on the road with makeshift headlights and an indicator. They may not be original parts, but they’ve already served many years of use. The headlight is from an old Peugeot, the indicator from an old Mazda. No matter — the main thing is that we can cross the Georgian border with the Vroni. Our Vroni is smiling again… :-)

What else did we get up to today…

  • Leaving Merzifon we drove in convoy escorted by the city ministry.
  • A big shop at METRO landed us mega family-sized packs galore.
  • “Team feast” with 2.5 kg of beef fillet from the washing-drum barbecue, and a meagre side of tomato-mozzarella salad
