Day 11 | 10.05.2016: Entry into Georgia and Camp by the Campfire

Starting point: Giresun (4’427 km) Destination: Batumi (4’888 km) Distance for the day: 461 km

At around 10:00 we set off from Giresun, freshly showered and fortified after a nice breakfast by the sea. A brief stop at the MIGROS (Turkey) and a detour to TÜF-TÜRK to have our rally cars inspected held us up only briefly. A photo with the manager of TÜF-TÜRK and his staff remained a fond memory. Then it was along the coast all the way to the Turkish-Georgian border. The border crossing was a little out of the ordinary for us, as only one person per vehicle — namely the registered owner — is allowed to drive across the border. The co-pilots had to walk across.

Once we had crossed the border, we quickly noticed that Georgia is a special country and that a hint of “communism” is still in the air. We had to swerve around several free-roaming cows before we could set up camp for the night in Batumi on a large car park. We arranged our wagons in a circle and enjoyed a fine Swiss speciality: a raclette… :-)
