Our Aid Projects 2020
Finding suitable aid projects is a core theme of the rally for us at Judo goes Orient. The projects must be meaningful and sustainable. We also need to be able to reach the locations within the time frame of the rally. That’s why we got in touch with various organisations and evaluated the options together as a team.
Romania
Helping a child may not mean the whole world to many — but to the child it can mean the whole world!
This beautiful quote, found on the website of the Swissair Staff Children’s Aid Foundation, made it clear to us that we had to get in touch with them. Through them we were immediately connected with two organisations: WKMS – Weniger Kann Mehr Sein – and SOS Children’s Villages.
We are collecting monetary donations and in-kind donations for children. Check out this list of everything we want to bring along.
The aid organisation WKMS – Weniger Kann Mehr Sein – was founded 25 years ago by Peter Maag from Netstal and his wife Theres. We met with them in person to talk about our support for their Romanian orphanage in Piatra Neamt. Children who were abandoned or left behind by their parents live there. The orphanage offers them warmth, security and an education. Currently around 50 children between the ages of four and eighteen live in the orphanage. In addition, the orphanage runs a soup kitchen that delivers hot meals to around 100 families in the surrounding communities. The delivery van used for this is broken down and urgently needs replacing.
That’s why we are collecting monetary donations to purchase a new transport vehicle for the orphanage’s soup kitchen, so we can continue to ensure the supply of warm meals to the approximately 100 families in the impoverished region around Piatra Neamt.
Bulgaria
As our second aid project, we will be supporting the SOS Children’s Village in Tryavna. Tryavna itself is a small town in central Bulgaria that once lived off the textile industry. Driven by necessity, workers leave to look for jobs abroad. Left behind are children who cannot be adequately cared for at the SOS Children’s Village Tryavna.
SOS Children’s Villages works closely with local authorities and the community to provide needs-based assistance. Currently around 30 children live in Tryavna and 65 children in the nearby town of Gabrovo, all of whom we will support with our project. Details of our support are still to be confirmed.
We at the Judo goes Orient team want, with your help, to ease the hardship in Piatra Neamt, Romania and in Tryavna, Bulgaria at the rally in May 2020. People who have almost nothing can use everything. We guarantee that all aid supplies will be delivered directly to those in need by us personally. Help us too!
