Sponsored Meal Bus Gets Wrapped...

Day 5: Piatra Neamt (Ro)

We wake up wonderfully rested and at 08:00 are treated to a delicious Romanian breakfast at the Hotel Oscar. We then head off towards the orphanage Casa Tereza in Piatra Neamt. The home director Mihaela and her staff welcome us at 10:00 with coffee. The current 37 or so children at the orphanage have to stay in their rooms today — the first day of our visit — due to Covid-19.

We park the trailers on the orphanage grounds. We won’t be allowed to unload them until tomorrow, Monday, after customs clearance. So we get started wrapping the meal bus, which was already purchased in 2020 by STV Besenbüren and Judo goes Orient for the soup kitchen at the orphanage. With this new meal bus, Paul (the driver) delivers warm meals weekly to around 400 of the poorest people in the region. The meals are cooked here at the orphanage in the “soup kitchen”.

Wrapping the meal bus, as everyone knows, makes you desperately hungry. Mihaela would love to feed us right there at the orphanage, but unfortunately Covid-19 makes this too risky. Instead she recommends we visit the Restaurant Cercul Gospondinelor with its view over all of Piatra Neamt. At the restaurant we are quickly greeted by Ionut. He grew up in the orphanage and now works in the kitchen of the restaurant. Shortly afterwards we enjoy a lovely meal on Mother’s Day.

A craving for water leads us around a reservoir with an earth dam, and we manage to fulfil another Wish Kilometre. In search of an aperitif beer, we find what we’re looking for back at our Hotel Oscar.

We don’t want to close today’s blog without sending warm belated Mother’s Day greetings from the entire Judo goes Orient team to all mothers.

Brief summary:

Day five is a highlight for us with the visit to the orphanage Casa Tereza and getting to know the staff. Wrapping the meal bus is also enormous fun — and it looks absolutely brilliant too, we think :-).
