Drive to the Black Sea at Nessebar
Day 11: Tryavna (BG) – Nessebar (BG)
Today’s departure mood is slightly dampened as ALEXA showed clutch problems the previous evening. So we first need to find a mechanic in Tryavna. After a brief search one is found, and just as we are about to set off with ALEXA, the clutch works perfectly again as if from nowhere. So we head off towards the Black Sea, which is roughly three hours away.
Along the way we stock up on fruit and nuts from local farmers at the roadside. Once we arrive in Nessebar, hunger strikes immediately and we enjoy fresh fish and seafood right by the sea. The subsequent sightseeing reveals Nessebar at its most beautiful. The small town sits on a peninsula and the streets are paved with cobblestones. The old town of Nessebar is lined with ruins of Byzantine fortresses and baths. In the ruins of the 5th-century Church of Sophia you can find stone columns and enormous arched windows. As a museum city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, the old town of Nessebar is definitely worth a visit.
We fall exhausted into bed in our cars at a campsite near Nessebar.
