Day 18: Peshkopie (AL)
Suela from Vizion O.J.F. invited us to a lovely dinner and an overnight stay at the new Hotel Kurora e Gjelbert in Peshkopie. The night in the new hotel room was very pleasant and restful for us. After a typical Albanian breakfast we set off for the Butterfly camping site.
In a rattling Mercedes bus we drive past clay houses along a truly bumpy approach road, then cover the rest on foot in a 30-minute walk. Arriving at the Butterfly nature camping site – which cannot be reached by car and sits beside a river – we are given a guided tour of the grounds. Suela promotes young start-up projects in Albania, and so around ten selected start-up entrepreneurs were able to present their projects and apply for funding. To round off the presentations, we are treated to a delicious meal featuring a freshly slaughtered and grilled lamb.
At 5 p.m. we head off westwards. By a small idyllic lake we find a lovely spot for our overnight camp. After setting up the trestle table, enjoying aperitifs and getting the fire going, we start preparing our sauce for the spaghetti. While cooking, the landowner pays us a visit and is delighted by our campsite. After a group photo and a Swiss penknife as a thank-you for letting us camp, he wishes us a good night.
Brief summary:
On day eighteen we enjoy the Butterfly nature campsite and listen to the fascinating presentations from the start-up entrepreneurs. We are treated to a wonderful feast and soak up the lovely atmosphere. We spend the evening by an idyllic little lake and cook ourselves a tasty pasta.
