A beautiful drive along the coast of Montenegro…
Day 22: Podgorica (MNE) – Mostar (BIH)
We wake up wonderfully at the guesthouse and, fortified by a delicious breakfast, set off through Montenegro. Right after Podgorica the Hobocebe mountain range rises ahead of us, which we conquer via the pass before being rewarded with a stunning view of the open sea.
The beautiful drive along the coast and through the region around Budva in splendid weather lets us make easy progress. Just past Tivat we take the ferry for a quarter of an hour to cross to the mainland opposite. Our route takes us onward to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. Once again, the customs officers are thorough and wave us over to the side. Three of them stand around our rally cars and ask what we’re doing and what the materials on the roof boxes are for. We quickly explain our project to the customs officers, share our Facebook and Instagram with them and get our passports back with an “it’s OK” — free passage ahead. Welcome to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We drive through a very hilly landscape over three mountain passes and notice that the population here is sparse. For kilometres on end we see not a single house or even a person. Towards evening we reach Mostar and find the lovely campsite “Neretva” on the Neretva river, which lets us rest for the night.
Brief summary:
Day twenty-two rewards us with a wonderful drive along the coast of Montenegro. At the border crossing we quickly convinced the customs officers of our wonderful project and they let us into Bosnia and Herzegovina. Right on the Neretva river, which gave the campsite its name, we cook ourselves a delicious pasta.
