Emergency generator handed over to an elderly family...

Day 24: Tuzla (BIH) – Döbriach (A)

A stormy night is behind us and we wake up in light rain beside Lake Jezero Bistarac. After a standing breakfast we pack up our night camp. We are glad to leave the rundown “Ontario” campsite behind as quickly as possible. After getting GLORIA started with external help (jump leads), we drive through the somewhat remote area of Lukavac. We are looking for the best place to leave the emergency generator we are still carrying. After a few enquiries we find an elderly, physically limited family who often have to go without electricity. They are self-sufficient and tend their garden around the house. With a shared photo we hand over the emergency generator, and we are happy to have found such a wonderful home for it.

We drive on through many villages and in one of them find school children, to whom we give biscuits and toys. On the way to the Croatian border we pass through former war zones of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where we can still see bullet holes in the old houses along the roadside. We cross the border into Croatia without any problems, though here too the customs officers are very curious about our project.

We drive in transit through Croatia to the Slovenian border. This crossing too goes smoothly, and so we head to the next border with Austria. The customs officers are delighted by our vehicles and very positive about our project. After handing over our Judo goes Orient flyer and sharing a laugh, we are into Austria. After a short search we find a beautiful campsite “Brunner am See” right on Lake Millstatt.

Brief summary:

Day twenty-four starts with handing over the emergency generator to an elderly, physically limited family. The journey through four countries in a single day is wonderfully varied and we arrive safely at Lake Millstatt.

Today we head towards Innsbruck and tomorrow back to Switzerland. The planned arrival time is Sunday at 17:00 at the Oase Wohlen (Untere Farnbühlstrasse 52, 5610 Wohlen).
